Mature chicken

I bought this cheap old skiny chicken (fowl, whatever that is), has lots of bones and ton of flavour. 3 birds for about $8!

Cut two birds in pieces, broil on low till nice and brown, transfer in slowcooker, add can of mushroom soup and some water. Cook for a long long time.

I served it with bow pasta, yaammmm. On second day Payam said not to cook this chicken again as he did not like it..... go figure, after all the compliments the first day....

Roast lamb

Chanks of lamb rub with tomatoe paste (with added salt, bit of water, pepper, basil, rosmary), put onions on the bottom of the baking dish add some water (about 1inch), add chopped tomatoes if desired. Bake on about 350 for couple of hours. Serve with rice or potatoes.

Cheap as we buy lamb once a year, this year it was about $2.50 per lb.

Last night we had prawns with rice.
Rice: basmati, cooked till its done. We usually buy 10lb bags for about $4 and it last for few months (if not too many parties at home).
Prawns:
1 bag of prawns (Save-on-foods) has sale buy one get one free, so it works out as $4.50 a bag of 32-35 prawns.
1 onion, we buy bag at Superstore for under $3
few cloves of garlic
oil
butter
lemon juice

Peal prawns, onion, garlic. Chop onion, fry at low hit in oil ( a lot of oil so onion is tender and not brown), add butter (couple of tablespoons), minced garlic, prawns and lemon juice (a teaspoon). Of cause salt and pepper to taste. Cook on med heat turning once in a while till prawns are red and cooked.

I think guests are impressed when prawns are served as one of the dishes - they do not realise it is cheap and easy to make.

Prawn recipy is somewhat taken from Bill, owner of Greek Taverna Skiathos where I used to work till it burned down one Christmas morning.

This is less a blog more a note pad

I really do not need another blog.... but untill such a time that I will get the laptop, I need to make notes on some Quick cheep meal ideas. Most of them will not be mine, and I will try to give the credit to the person I borrowed it from.

Note, quick and cheep - not healty and delicious...

I love good food, I love to eat, I like to cook, I would love to lose weight ( a lot of it) and I love to eat... go figure...
